Plano Balloon Festival

A whole weekend of hot air balloons over Oak Point Park: mass ascensions, balloon glows in the evening, a fireworks show, carnival rides, fair food, and live music. The evening glows are the magic moment for littles: dozens of balloons lighting up like giant lanterns against the night sky.

Mom tips: mornings are launch time and much cooler; evenings bring the glows and the crowds. Bring a blanket, cash for food vendors, and patience for parking (shuttle lots are usually the smoother play; check the festival site for this year's parking map).
