Berry Picking Near Dallas: Blueberries, Blackberries, and How to Do It Right

Updated August 8, 2026

There is no summer morning more wholesome than a berry farm with your littles: they pick, they sneak a few, everyone comes home sticky and proud. These are the two farms east of Dallas we go back to every season.

Blueberries: Blase Family Farm, Rockwall

Blase Family Farm is the classic DFW blueberry experience: wooded trails, shaded picnic tables, gorgeous berry fields, and a blueberry popsicle on the way out.

📍 1232 E Fork Rd, Rockwall, TX 75087

  • Season: roughly end of May through early July
  • Reservations required, and they release time slots daily at 2 pm on blasefamilyfarm.com
  • No entrance fee; berries are sold by weight
  • No pesticides, herbicides, or insecticides on the farm
  • No pets or outside food

How it works: pay for the bucket, pick, then they weigh your berries to determine the cost. My toddler loved every minute of it.

Blackberries (and more blueberries): Oneal Berry Farm, Royse City

Oneal Berry Farm is the hidden gem about 5 miles outside Royse City: u-pick blackberries and blueberries straight from the bush, plus homemade blackberry jam, local honey, and farm fresh eggs at the stand.

📍 7726 Co Rd 2580, Royse City, TX 75189

  • Season: May and June, and it ends fast
  • Check their Facebook before going to confirm they are open for picking that day
  • Picking baskets available on site, $2 each
  • Leave pets at home: they have chickens and dogs on the property

The berry morning packing list

  • Sunscreen and a sun hat for everyone; the fields have no shade
  • Old shoes if it rained recently
  • Water, more than you think
  • Allergy meds if anyone is sensitive to bee stings
  • A cooler in the car if you live far, so the berries ride home fresh
  • The stroller for the littlest one

Mom timing tips

Go at opening, always: cooler air, fuller bushes, better light for pictures, and happier kids. And do not over-plan the rest of that day. A berry morning plus a nap is a complete, perfect summer day.
